Here at the Frankfurt Book Fair I’ve just seen one of my favorite sights – the Powered by MarkLogic logo!

Its all over the Klopotek pavilion promoting The Rights, Licenses and Permissions Manager – its new MarkLogic-powered product. In the product announcement this week the Klopotek team proudly announced its shift from using ‘relational technology’ to using MarkLogic’s Enterprise NoSQL.

Its a big leap forward for not only Klopotek but for its customers who will use this great product.  It also continues the trend of adoption for MarkLogic in places few thought NoSQL could go. First we helped the publishing and media industries develop new innovative products that precisely deliver information to customers and helped move the industry from publishing to information provider. Then we branched out to banks and healthcare helping organizations bring together data with schema flexibility but not giving up transactions for data integrity.

The Klopotek application is another new direction for MarkLogic, taking us into the operational side of the publishing industry — helping organizations manage the rights and usages of data. This is the key stumbling block for many new digital products that seek to tailor information – are the rights in order to present this information, article, chart or graphic to this user in this context? The Kloptek product seeks to fill that gap and I think their phones will be ringing off the hook.

And its also part of another growing trend for MarkLogic’s Enterprise NoSQL: the OEM database behind other software packages.  MarkLogic has had OEMs for years but this is one of the first large, established companies jettisoning the relational world and embracing NoSQL.

Here’s to seeing many many more Powered by MarkLogic logos!
